Alain joined IN THE LIFE in August 2007, after four years working as a Policy Analyst for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. During his tenure at the Task Force, Alain authored or co-authored a number of groundbreaking research studies, including "Living in the Margins: A national survey of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Asian and Pacific Islander Americans," "Black Same-Sex Households in the United States: A Report from the 2000 Census," and, "Asian Pacific American Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender People: A Community Portrait." In addition to dozens of completed speaking engagements at colleges and universities across the country, his autobiography appears in Kevin Kumashiro's "Restoried Selves: Autobiographies of Queer Asian/Pacific American Activists." He currently serves as Coalition Manager for Asian Equality and recently completed his tenure on the board of Gay Asian & Pacific Islander Men of New York, where he served as Political and Fundraising Chair. He played a central role in the campaign to hold Details Magazine accountable for its "Gay or Asian?" feature. Alain's work as Fundraising Chair for GAPIMNY, where he was responsible for researching and writing grant proposals, organizing fundraising events, coordinating donation appeals, led to him pursue a career in development. Originally from Cupertino, Calif., he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine and a Master of Arts in Urban Planning from UCLA.
